(Fri., Sep. 19th, 2007) Release of a book and Workshop on Nursery Techniques
The Palni Hills Conservation Council has released a book entitled A Nursery Manual: 100 Useful Plant Species on the 19th October. This was done simultaneously with a workshop which was conducted in the nursery at Amsapuram, attended by several NGOs from Orissa (Gram Swaraj and Regional Centre for Forestry and Cooperation), Maharashtra (SRUJAN, Maharashtra Arogya Mandal, Lok Panchayat, Lok Paryaya and ECONET) and Tamil Nadu (Keystone Foundation and Palni Hills Conservation Council). The workshop was a hands-on experience and explanation of the techniques involved in plant raising and planting, something that the PHCC has been occupied with for almost two decades.
The Nursery Manual, which was jointly published by the Palni Hills Conservation Council, Keystone Foundation and the Non-Timber Forest Products Exchange Programme, is a slim volume detailing the stages between seed collection and planting for a 100 useful species that may benefit a local farmer or tree grower. The Manual is amply illustrated with colour plates and is a useful companion for the tree lover. The Manual costs Rs 150/- and is available at info@palnihills.org
