The council consistently keeps vigil of the natural assets of the hills. Extensive surveys on small mammals, Elephants, Butterflies, and other endangered species have been conducted. Immediate measures have to be taken to save these species from extinction. Details of one of the small mammals nearing extinction is given below. We will soon be presenting details of the other species. Aid is sought for taking further steps. | |

The endangered Grizzled Giant Squirrel of the Ghats - Ratufa macroura indica is present on the Northern slope of the hills here. The council is trying to preserve evergreen forest habitat of the squirrel at 700 mts altitude. The council has conducted extensive surveys to determine the cause of forest decline and is taking steps to stem the destruction of the habitat of the squirrel. |
